I started a new sourdough starter with organic rye flour, first day not a lot of action, this morning I fed the starter (2nd day) and it did rise BUT i just checked on it and the smell is a bad one, like stinky feet, is that normal? i used 1/2 AP flour and 1/2 organic rye and just tap water.
Is it normal to have that horrible smell? I'm tempted to order a sourdough starter from KAF, but then I'm afraid that same thing will happen, it is so hard right now to find organic rye or even organic AP unbleached flour.
ANy advise will be much appreciated.
