Sourdough rising


Hello, this is my first post after joining a day or so ago.  I tried a loaf of no knead sourdough yesterday. My starter is perfect. The flavor is delicious-no problem there, but the bread is so dense. Could it be that I didn't let it rise long enough? How do you know when your bread has risen enough?  I feel like I should know this but I'm blanking out. Thank you... karen(veraz1grl)
